Acer has finally joined the netbook market by releasing the Acer Aspire One. They have announced it to be an ‘internet device’ rather than a normal laptop. Other big IT companies such as Intel an Asus still think of their mini laptops as netbooks, they are not convinced with Acer’s ideas. Asus first introduced the entire concept of the netbook to us when they released their Asus Eee models.
Even though Acer is a little late in the game, it may still have the potential to be the market leader in the world of netbooks. There are a few different things that make them unique which is one of the most important ways for a company to come out on top with their netbooks. They have to create a unique and different version of the netbook that will appeal to you, the customer.

So what makes Acer unique?
First off, The Acer Aspire One is designed in a very mature and sleek way. It has curved edges and a glossy finish. It is available in blue, white, red, and black, and even a very pretty shade of Pink, which is rare in the netbook world.
It is actually thinner and wider that the Asus Eee Pc 901 by 25mm. The acer netbook clocks in at 249 x 140 x 29mm thick. The overall weight is also lighter then the Eee PC 901. This is due to the lightweight battery the Acer aspire one notebook uses called a 2200mAh battery.
When it comes to the Operating System, the Acer aspire one comes with 2 different options for their users to choose from. You can either choose a netbook based on Windows or on Linux systems. Each has benefits and downsides.
For example, with the Linux system, you are going to get a netbook with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. On the other hand though, if you go the Linux route you are going to have less storage, only 8Gb of NAND flash memory capacity.
For those who choose a model with Windows system, you will be getting a similar type of processor but with a larger amount or RAM (1.0Bg of RAM) and storage capacities (80 Gb of hard drive). On the downside, windows based models are more vulnerable to loss of data within the hard drive when an impact occurs.
There are many other features of the Acer aspire one that sets it apart from its competitors. With a little bit of research you will be able to judge for yourself if Acer is the company you want to go with when buying a netbook.
